AI Mily: Your Medical Interpreter, On Standby.

How it Works

AI Mily is our flagship product, a SaaS platform that makes medical interpreter services instantly accessible through healthcare-compliant speech-to-speech translation.

The Mission

Capyra was founded by Mily, a nurse who witnessed firsthand how language barriers impacted the quality of care for Non-English Speaking Background (NESB) patients. Throughout her nursing career, Mily saw how patients struggled to communicate their needs, often leading to delays, misunderstandings, and poorer health outcomes. One day, Mily had an idea: What if she started accompanying elderly Chinese patients to their medical appointments, using her medical knowledge to help with translation and advocacy? While this made a meaningful impact, she quickly realised that as one person, there was only so much she could do.That’s when inspiration struck. What if there were an "AI Mily" that could carry forward her vision, that is to help NESB patients get their healthcare needs met, just like everyone else? And so, our flagship product AI Mily, was born: a medically attuned interpreter, designed to bridge the gap in communication between physicians and NESB patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

How AI Mily handles patient consent?
Patient consent is critical for the operation of AI Mily. To support this, the platform includes a built-in Data Consent & Instructions feature. This process ensures patients clearly understand how their data is handled and how the app works. Once informed, patients provide verbal consent directly to the clinician, which is then confirmed in the app before the session begins.
Where is your data processed? How is sensitive data protected?
Data is stored and processed on Australian-hosted servers whenever possible. Some real-time processing may route through overseas services; transfers are minimised, encrypted, and governed by industry-standard contractual safeguards, due diligence, and APP-aligned controls. To protect sensitive information, AI Mily uses encryption in transit and at rest, alongside strict access controls to ensure that only authorised users can access the system.
How long are transcripts retained?
AI Mily is designed so that transcripts are only available during the active session. Once the session is finalised, transcripts are permanently deleted using industry-standard deletion methods to ensure they cannot be recovered. This approach protects patient privacy by preventing any residual storage of consultation data.
Does session data get used for model training?
No, AI Mily does not use session data or transcripts for model training. The system is designed to process data only for the purpose of delivering translations.
Is audio recorded or stored?
No, AI Mily does not record or store audio recordings of translation sessions. The system operates entirely in real time, processing speech as it happens to generate translations, but the audio itself is never captured, saved, or retained at any stage.
Will data be sold or used for secondary purposes?
Patient or clinician data will never be sold, shared, or repurposed for secondary uses. AI Mily acts only as a secure communication tool and processes data solely to deliver the service in accordance with user consent and legal requirements.
What is your policy in the event of a data breach?
AI Mily has an incident response plan aligned with the Australian Privacy Principles and the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme. In the event of a breach, the issue would be immediately contained and investigated, and organisations, users, and regulators would be notified where required. Support would be provided to clinicians and patients to manage and mitigate any risks.
Does the translation tool require internet connectivity? What about outages?
Yes, AI Mily requires an internet connection to provide real-time translations. If the connection is interrupted, the session will stop automatically and will not continue until connectivity is restored. No audio is buffered during outages, and all communication is protected using encryption methods.
Are there known limitations or contraindications?
AI Mily is not a substitute for a qualified human interpreter in high-risk or sensitive contexts such as complex medical consent or where a human interpreter is legally required. The system may also be less effective in extremely noisy environments where speech capture is impaired.
How does AI Mily manage responsibility for translation accuracy and clinical decision-making?
AI Mily is designed as a communication support tool, not a diagnostic or treatment system. The platform includes safeguards such as a verification loop to help clinicians and patients confirm understanding in real time. While AI Mily ensures secure and reliable operation, clinical interpretation and decision-making remain the responsibility of the treating clinician. Human interpreters should be engaged in high-risk or legally required contexts.
